The Global Child Nutrition Foundation is proud to announce that Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President Emeritus of the World Food Prize Foundation, will receive the 2020 Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Nutrition.

The award recognizes Amb. Quinn’s extraordinary contributions in helping to end hunger and improve nutrition at home and around the world. Amb. Quinn’s leadership to end global hunger, promote agriculture research, and inspire youth to accept the challenge of feeding the world is an inspiration to us all. GCNF is deeply appreciative of Amb. Quinn’s passionate commitment to ending hunger, helping to guarantee all students have access to the nutritious food they need to learn and thrive in school.

The luncheon event to honor Amb. Kenneth Quinn will be held Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the National Union Building in Washington, D.C.

About the Honoree: Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn

Dr. Kenneth M. Quinn, former U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, assumed the leadership of the World Food Prize Foundation on January 1, 2000, following his retirement from the State Department after a 32 year career in the Foreign Service. Amb. Quinn retired on January 3, 2020 from the Foundation. 

Inspired by the vision of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, the founder of the World Food Prize, Ambassador Quinn has endeavored to build this annual $250,000 award into the “Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture.”

Amb. Quinn joins the ranks of previous award recipients and champions of child nutrition such as Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Rules Committee, Representative Jim McGovern, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Senator Pat Roberts; African Development Bank President Dr. Akin AdesinaHoward G. Buffett; former U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretaries Tom Vilsackand Dan Glickman; former U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah; Senators George McGovern and Bob Dole; and former World Food Programme Executive Director Catherine Bertini.

ABOUT THE GENE WHITE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR CHILD NUTRITION
The Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Nutrition was created in 2004 to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the worldwide dream of ending childhood hunger. This prestigious award is given in the name of Gene White who has dedicated her life to the nutrition and well-being of children. Gene has worked tirelessly over many decades to improve the lives, health, and educational options of children in our country and around the world. Gene was the first to receive this award.
 
High-level government officials, corporate executives, and non-profit leaders gather each year to honor the Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and to celebrate the achievements in the related realms of school meal programs, nutrition, and agriculture. The GCNF Annual Awards Ceremony is in its 16th year.
