GCNF presented the 2017 Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Nutrition to Dr. Akin Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group. On June 13, movers and shakers in the global agricultural and hunger space gathered to honor Dr. Akin Adesina, President of the African Development Bank at the Global Child Nutrition Foundation’s annual Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award event. Dr. Adesina is the first non-US recipient of this award. The event brought together policy makers, food securities experts, African leaders and development representatives. Adesina’s work in his capacity with the bank has led him to be a champion for improving agricultural production across Africa.
Remarks were made by Representative Jim McGovern, Senator Pat Roberts, former Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and former President of Malawi Dr. Joyce Banda. Tributes were given by the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, World Food Programme IFPRI, President of Purdue University, World Food Prize, Chicago Council on Global Affairs and numerous trade associations and corporations.
